The Charmed season 4 finale may have ended the series, but it began a feud between the original and reboot writers. Charmed was based on the original series of the same name created by Constance M. Burge. The original Charmedstarred Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty, Alyssa Milano, and later Rose McGowan as sisters and witches for good Prue, Piper, Pheobe, and Paige who use their powers to protect the innocent. The series gained a cult following, and in 2018 a reboot for the series premiered on the CW.
The CW updated the new Charmed by including a more diverse cast and characters and moving the Charmed sisters from San Francisco to Hilltowne. Madeleine Mantock, Melonie Diaz, and Sarah Jeffery portrayed the Charmed Ones, Macy, Mel, and Maggie, and Lucy Barrett was added to the group as Michaela «Kaela» Danso after Macy's death in Charmed season 3. While some fans and members of the original Charmed criticized the reboot's apparent lack of connection to the first trio of sisters, the Charmed series finale shocked viewers with a surprising connection to the original show. Mel, Maggie, and Kaela used a portal to jump to Halliwell Manor, although Piper, Phoebe, and Paige did not appear.

This final surprise ending from the series finale reignited the feud between Charmed's original writers and the new ones. The fight began on Twitter when original series writer Curtis Kheel tweeted his displeasure over the series finale, claiming that Piper, Pheobe, and Paige "vanquished the 3 imposters after they invaded Halliwell Manor" and Combs blew up the portal. The recent Charmed writers responded by calling Kheel an "asshole" and sharing that they loved both versions of the show.
