Twitter has introduced "a new home for writers" called Twitter Write.
Twitter Write combines the company's newsletter service, Revue, with a new feature called Notes to make it easier for writers to bypass the platform's 280 character limit without having to carefully plan a thread of tweets. (Which most users seem to mess up anyway.)
"Notes will give people the ability to go over 280 characters on Twitter in a single piece of content, with the inclusion of photos, videos, GIFs, and Tweets," the company says(Opens in a new window). "Notes can be written, published, and shared on Twitter, and read all across the Internet."
Sound familiar? It should—Twitter is essentially describing blog posts. The primary difference is that writers can post Notes directly to Twitter rather than maintaining a separate website they're probably going to end up promoting on a bunch of social media platforms anyway.
It turns out building a blogging tool into a micro-blogging platform is more complicated than it sounds, however, so Notes won't be available to everyone at launch. The company says it's inviting writers in the US, the UK, Canada, and Ghana to test Notes over the next two months.
Twitter also says it will "be providing updates on what's next for writers on Twitter, having conversations about writing (using Notes, Spaces, Tweets, threads, and Revue), and highlighting writers and their Notes" via the new @TwitterWrite handle that debuted this morning.
More information about Notes is available via a support article(Opens in a new window).
