If you own one of Samsung's 2022 Smart TVs, it's now possible to play a huge range of games without having to purchase a games console or hook up a gaming PC.
Today Samsung launched its Gaming Hub(Opens in a new window) for 2022 Neo QLED 8K, Neo QLED 4K, QLEDs, and 2022 Smart Monitor Series. Rather than requiring additional hardware, the Gaming Hub software offers access to game streaming services offered by Xbox, GeForce Now, Stadia, and Utomik. Access to Amazon Luna is also promised in the near future.
It's possible to pair Bluetooth headsets and controllers directly with these TVs to offer a true gaming experience, and there's also access to Twitch, YouTube, and Spotify, as well as music streaming services for background audio while playing.
The Gaming Hub experience is made possible by the fact Samsung's TVs run on the Tizen Linux-based operating system. Samsung says its 2022 TVs and monitors also include "faster decoding and optimized buffer control technology" which results in a 30% improvement in input lag compared to previous models. AI upscaling built-in to the TVs also holds the promise of 4K and 8K output with "high color accuracy and sharpness."
The one limitation of using Gaming Hub from today seems to be location. Access to the streaming features are only being made available in the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Korea, and Brazil. When Amazon Luna arrives, it will also only be available in select regions, but what those regions are hasn't been revealed yet.
