The Pokémon Company has released a new trailer for Detective Pikachu Returns.
Shown off during Pokémon Presents, the trailer (which can be seen at the top of this story) reintroduces the characters of Tim and Harry Goodman.
Detective Pikachu Returns will also see Pikachu partner with Pokémon such as Growlithe and Darmanitan in order to complete puzzles and find clues.
Growlithe will be able to sniff certain areas of the game in order to discover clues and solve cases, while Galarian Darmanitan will be able to smash from obstacles and unlock new areas of Ryme City.
Detective Pikachu Returns will be released on October 6.
The game was first announced in May 2019, before going largely silent for years. Until earlier this year, the last fans heard of Detective Pikachu’s status was in September 2022, when it was spotted that the LinkedIn profile of a senior game programmer at Creatures Inc stated that he has been working on “one unannounced project and one nearing release, Detective Pikachu 2”.
The first Detective Pikachu game was released on the 3DS in 2018, and was an adventure game spin-off of the Pokémon series that focused more on plot.
A live-action movie version of Detective Pikachu was released the following year, to a positive critical reception. Earlier this year it was said that a sequel is moving closer to reality.
New details, including a release date for the first piece of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet DLC were also announced during the Pokémon Presents stream.
It was also announced the addition of two classic Pokémon titles to the Nintendo Switch Online classic games collection.
