Let’s be honest, we all marveled at the opening scene of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime during which the cyber psycho demonstrated superhuman killing prowess thanks to a overabundance of cybernetic enhancements. This is exactly the vibe the latest gameplay trailer for Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty gave off with its over-the-top display of reworked abilities and weaponry.
There’s a major gameplay overhaul releasing alongside the Phantom Liberty expansion, regardless of whether you hand over the creds to experience the new campaign in Dogtown. CD Projekt Red made it clear earlier in the year that it was aware of the disappointment regarding the ability system and gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077, but that it had plans in the works for an improved experience.
Today’s gameplay trailer showed off a new Cyberpunk 2077, which looks far more lethal with the right assets at your disposal. It shows off vehicle combat, new weapons to acquire, revamped police encounters, demonstrations of the new skill trees and changes to cyberware, and some combat AI overhauls.
Additionally, the level cap will increase and there will be more than 100+ new items to diversify the experience. Perhaps best of all, though, is that the update will add much of this rework to the base game for everyone to experience.
Judgement is still out on the additions, but all of the changes mentioned by CD Projekt Red thus far sound like a step in the right direction for a game that suffered a disastrous launch. The developer has done significant work to make amends since then with patches and quality of life improvements, along with a suite of graphics upgrades for PC.
