MuiltiVersus, Player First Games' smash-hit IP-mashup fighting game, features iconic characters from across a number of Warner Bros. Discovery-owned properties, with free characters changing every two weeks. While the game is currently in open beta, it's also MultiVersus' soft launch. An end date for the beta has yet to be announced, and a seasonal structure will begin on August 9. With no obvious conclusion in sight, it seems players can continue battling each other in wild two-on-two fights for a while yet.
The major selling point of MultiVersus is its roster of characters. In this kind of game, many of the playable fighters are in their element — Batman and Arya Stark are no strangers to combat. Others, like Bugs Bunny or Scooby-Doo's Shaggy and Velma, are far less expected. The result is a fresh, wacky experience with exciting gameplay and a touch of humor that gives MultiVersus a shot to take Smash Bros.' crown.

While players currently have the option to purchase Founder's Packs, MultiVersus is free-to-play at its core. It takes a page from other character-based free-to-play titles like League of Legends — locking the majority of its characters behind an in-game currency grind or real life paywall while providing a small selection of free fighters. Founder's Packs provide a character tickets, a premium currency to unlock more characters; more expensive packs unsurprisingly provide more tickets. Still, even without paying, players can enjoy battling with the current free-to-play roster.
