MultiVersus was originally scheduled to wrap up its open beta and launch Season 1 last week, but plans changed and the Season 1 start date was pushed back. This gave fans a little more time to complete the MultiVersus open beta Battle Pass, but some were still disappointed that they had to wait longer than expected to jump into new content. Now the wait is coming to an end, as MultiVersus Season 1 is set to kick off later today, August 15.
In anticipation of MultiVersus Season 1, developer Player First Games has published comprehensive patch notes detailing what fans can expect when the new season kicks off. Notably, Season 1 will not start with all the changes detailed in the patch notes, but a second update will be coming a bit later on to implement the rest of them. Many characters are being tweaked in response to feedback from the beta, buffing and nerfing them as necessary while also addressing exploits tied to their abilities.

The tweaks to the MultiVersus roster may shake up the meta a bit, but what may be of more interest to fans is the free character rotation. After the update goes live later today and until August 30, the free characters in MultiVersus will be Arya Stark from Game of Thrones, Batman, LeBron James, and Steven from Steven Universe. Any MultiVersus players who grew attached to the free characters they've been playing as in the open beta will need to fork over gold coins if they want to keep playing as them.
