After a delay earlier this month, the first season for MultiVersus is here, and brings with it some major updates for the new platform fighter. In addition to a host of balance tweaks and mission improvements, season 1 will bring at least four new characters to the game. This update also starts the new bimonthly free-to-play character rotation.
The season 1 patch will come in two parts. The first will go live Monday afternoon, with the second coming within a week or so. For a complete list of patch notes (for this round), scroll down.
Morty from Rick and Morty will be MultiVersus’first new character, and will debut on Aug. 23. He’ll join the ranks of Batman and LeBron James as the game’s newest brawler. Sometime before the end of season 1, MultiVersus will also get Rick (also from Rick and Morty), Black Adam from DC Comics, and Stripe from Gremlins.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play game, and players need to unlock characters with real money purchases or in-game currency in order to play them. However, every two weeks, Player First Games gives players access to a rotating list of free-to-play characters to try out on a temporary basis. Season 1 starts the first rotation of this free roster, and players will have access to Arya, Batman, LeBron James, and Steven Universe.
MultiVersus offers a battle pass filled with cosmetics for players to level up and unlock by completing missions. Based on feedback during the pre-season, Player First Games has made some changes for season 1 in order to make some missions easier to complete. Namely, the only class-based mission (i.e., get a certain amount of wins with a mage character) will no longer appear in the daily rotation.
