A Magic: The Gathering Secret Lair deck served as a tie-in to Stranger Things, but those cards will soon be reprinted to better fit into the collectible card game's world. The Netflix horror series, which serves as a throwback to the 1980s, was critically acclaimed when it premiered back in 2016. Magic: The Gathering's Secret Lair drops allowed for Stranger Things cards last year, turning the residents of Hawkins into Planeswalkers.
First announced in 2019, Secret Lairs are creative Magic: The Gathering sets that fall outside the series' typical aesthetic. The very first Secret Lair that creator Wizards of the Coast revealed was focused entirely on cats, and another artistic Secret Lair used Bob Ross' wholesome paintings to create a uniquely soothing set for fans to collect. A more substantial crossover event came in the form of an Arcane: League of Legends Secret Lair, which saw two of gamings' most popular fantasy worlds collide in the form of two sets. A MtG Secret Lair based on Stranger Thingslaunched in October 2021, allowing players to collect iconic characters like Eleven and Hopper.

A weekly update video, posted by Magic: The Gathering to YouTube, reveals that the Stranger Things Secret Lair will soon be reprinted to match the rest of the series' cards. While the cards will maintain the exact same gameplay abilities, the names and images will be changed to no longer reflect the Stranger Things series. Eleven, for example, will be transformed into a new card called Cecily, Haunted Mage. This will allow players to collect and utilize these unique cards without ruining their deck's consistency.
