The Stranger Things season 4 timeline has finally been revealed. Set within the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana during the neon-blazing 1980s, the series sees a group of intrepid young friends attempting to defeat the supernatural horrors that haunt their town and uncover the government secrets that have allowed atrocities to take place. Aided by mother Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and chief of police Jim Hopper (David Harbour), each season follows the characters as they fend off a new demonic presence that has infiltrated their reality from the alternate dimension known as the «Upside Down.» Since the premiere of Stranger Things season 1 in 2016, the show has achieved worldwide critical acclaim, having broken several viewership records for Netflix.
The hit drama is returning for season 4 after an interim of nearly three years, due to pandemic-related filming delays. With Netflix having confirmed that season 4 will be released in two volumes, it is set to be the longest installment of Stranger Things to date. The story will follow on from the explosive season 3 finale, in which the team successfully destroyed the Mind Flayer and the secret Russian laboratory attempting to access the Upside Down beneath the Starcourt Mall, resulting in the supposed death of Hopper. However, a Stranger Things season 4 teaser trailer revealed Hopper to be alive, having been somehow transported to a Russian prison camp.
