Mortal Kombat 1’s beta will be held in August, series co-creator Ed Boon has announced on Twitter – it also happens to be his mum’s birthday!
The Mortal Kombat 1 beta will run from 18th to 21st August across PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles – there’s no word on if and when a PC beta will be held. This beta will be exclusively for people who pre-order Mortal Kombat 1 to gain access.
Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders also get players Shang Tsung as a playable characters.
This isn’t the one and only time that Mortal Kombat 1 has been playable prior to release, with a carefully branded “stress test” held back in June that was definitely not a beta because that’s reserved for pre-orders. That stress test featured a more limited roster and feature set than what will likely appear in the full pre-order beta, but still gave a great chance for players who got in to check out this new generation fighting game, and all its features, such as Kameo fighters.
In our Mortal Kombat 1 preview, Nick said, “Freedom to express yourself, freedom to be creative and freedom to smash your opponents teeth in before ripping their hearts out, Mortal Kombat’s back and it’s bigger than ever. I can’t wait to dive deeper into the bloody fighting of Mortal Kombat 1 when it comes out in September.”
In other Mortal Kombat 1 news, NetherRealm recently confirmed the characters that would be added via the Kombat Pack DLC. From the Mortal Kombat core, the DLC reveal trailer confirms Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka all as playable fighters. Alongside those returning MK fighters are two guest characters that will add some off-kilter superhero shenanigans: Homelander and Peacemaker.
Mortal Kombat 1 is coming out for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC on 19th September 2023.
