Marc Spector might be the lead hero in Moon Knight, but Khonshu already is interested in having Layla pick up the mantle as his avatar next. As the newest Marvel Cinematic Universe hero in Phase 4, Oscar Isaac's Marc Spector/Steven Grant is just being introduced to audiences. Moon Knight is taking a slower approach to showing why he's the perfect choice to be Khonshu's avatar, as exploring Moon Knight's multiple identities, or alters, adds additional layers to Marc's attempts to serve the Egyptian moon god. Surprisingly, Marvel has already set up his potential replacement if Khonshu becomes unhappy, as Marc's wife, Layla (May Calamawy) is of interest to the god.
The relationship between Khonshu and his avatar is complicated, to say the least, but Marc Spector seems to be well-equipped to do what is asked of him. He's a former mercenary who is highly skilled in combat, but he's also not afraid to get his hands dirty if that means protecting people or doing what he thinks is right. However, his disassociative identity disorder can get in the way of Khonshu's plans. The Egyptian moon god is clearly frustrated whenever Steven Grant takes control from Marc Spector, as Khonshu berates him with various insults and views him as an unwilling and useless part of his plan. It is partially due to these frustrations that Khonshu is already threatening Marc with Layla becoming his next avatar.

May Calamawy's Layla hasn't had a significant role in Moon Knight through the first few episodes, but even the small glimpses of her character indicate why Khonshu thinks she'd make a good replacement for Marc. One big hurdle to get past is
