Simu Liu is praising Moon Knight after recently criticizing Ethan Hawke's use of Mandarin in the show. Created by Jeremy Slater and based on the popular comics character of the same name, Moon Knight is the sixth television project produced by Marvel Studios to be released on Disney+, having premiered back on March 30. The series follows Marc Spector/Moon Knight, a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder, which has caused him to develop several identities, including Steven Grant, who finds himself drawn into a dangerous mystery involving Egyptian gods. Hawke stars as the villainous Arthur Harrow, a cult leader who has amassed a following of people who believe in his association with Ammit and judgment of others.
The second episode of Moon Knight, titled «Summon the Suit,» revealed just how expansive the Disciples of Ammit is when police officers delivered Steven Grant to Harrow and a community fully comprised of members. Grant first noticed what was occurring when pleading for help from a character named Jamila, who showed him her tattoo, that of a balance scale, the same as Harrow's. In the scene that followed, while conversing with Grant, Harrow stopped to say something to Jamila in Mandarin, explaining that all of his followers have learned to speak different languages. Though the two only exchanged a few words, the poor attempts at Mandarin caught the attention of many, including Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star, Simu Liu, who jokingly tweeted that Harrow needed to fire his teacher.
