Warning! Contains major spoilers for Moon Knight episode 4
Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead discuss how episode 4’s Marc and Steven scream scene involved capturing a number of different shots. Moon Knight is the latest character to land on Disney+ as Marvel continue to expand their ever-growing line-up of TV series. Set within the bounds of the wider MCU but largely self-contained in its own unique story, Moon Knight follows Oscar Isaac as he stars as both Marc Spector and Steven Grant, two alters in a Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) system. Previously described as Fight Club meets Indiana Jones, the series also stars May Calamawy and Ethan Hawke, with four of the six slated episodes now having premiered on the streaming service.
Moon Knight episode 1 to 3 spent their time laying the ground work for Marc and Steven’s story, with Marc having previously made a deal with the Egyptian god Khonshu, who granted him the power to transform into the white-armoured Moon Knight. As Marc and Steven continued to come up against Hawke’s villain Arthur Harrow, the final moments of episode 4 offered audiences the mind-blowing twist that Marc is actually a patient in a psychiatric hospital, suggesting that the events of the previous episodes have simply occurred inside his mind. Moon Knight episode 4 culminated with Marc and Steven being greeted by a giant talking hippo (believed to represent the Egyptian goddess Taweret) taking the pair by surprise and causing them to scream as she offered a simple “Hi,” with the scene only adding to the overall chaos of the episode’s final moments.
