Moon Knight episode 5 follows Marc Spector and Steven Grant, both played by Oscar Isaac, as they try to balance their scales in the Egyptian afterlife. The Disney+ series is the first MCU project with darker themes and a distinct horror vibe at times. It's also the first MCU series to feature a Jewish main character and the first to be led by an actor of Latino heritage. Both of these cultural identities are explored in this episode.
The 5th episode of the series takes place in the afterlife after Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) shoots Marc in Alexander the Great's tomb. Marc and his alter Steven are told by Moon Knight's Egyptian hippo goddess Taweret that they must balance their scales, recalling the moment when Harrow was unable to get Steven's scales to balance in judgment. Without balanced scales, they face spending eternity in Duat, the realm of the dead, among all of the other unbalanced or corrupt souls. Steven and Marc also need to return to the land of the living so that they can stop Harrow from helping Ammit kill countless innocent people. By the end of the episode, Steven is seemingly lost to Duat and Marc ends up in the Field of Reeds, the Egyptian equivalent of Heaven. As his soul appears in the Field of Reeds, a song plays that is sung in Spanish.
