One episode after Moon Knight introduced Arthur Harrow, the villain has already repeated Thanos’ hypocrisy in Avengers: Endgame. Although there has been no direct reference to Thanos in Moon Knight, there is a distinct similarity between Arthur Harrow’s (Ethan Hawke) and Thanos’s (Josh Brolin) ideologies. Both villains are self-styled men of principle, advocating to save the world from itself. Arthur’s condemnatory vision runs parallel to Thanos’s immense belief in his righteousness, and as a result, both tend to manifest flaws and hypocrisy.
While Thanos has been looming over the MCU since The Avengers, it was only in Avengers: Infinity War that his motives were revealed. He seeks to bring stability to the universe by eliminating half of all life so that its population matches its supply of resources. Meanwhile, Arthur aims to remove pain and suffering from the world in order to create a utopia. He plans to accomplish this by passing judgment on people using his powers, tied to Ammit's staff and his balance scales tattoo.

Arthur Harrow explains that he only kills people based on their capacity to be evil, as dictated by the balance ceremony. However, in Moon Knight episode 2, Arthur’s killing rule is violated with him murdering an apparently innocent man on the street. For someone who claims to follow the justice scheme of the Egyptian goddess Ammit, he becomes an embodiment of the very evil he wants to purge from the world.
