The new Batgirl movie is currently one of HBO Max's most highly anticipated projects, and now there's a whole new reason to be excited. Michael Keaton, the oldest living Batman himself, has been spotted reprising the role for this film.
The DCEU-set film introduces Leslie Grace as Batgirl and will be the character's first live-action appearance since 1997's Batman & Robin. To add to the excitement, Brendan Fraser will be the film's antagonist as Firefly, continuing his great relationship with DC after Doom Patrol.

Keaton was photographed by paparazzi in Glasgow, Scotland, where Batgirl is currently being produced. The suit is very similar to his iconic look in the Tim Burton films, with a classic yellow symbol on the chest, just like old times. The scene will likely be for a flashback, though let's not rule out the possibility of a Batgirl/Batman team up.
After Ben Affleck chose to step down as the DCEU's Batman, Keaton was confirmed to appear in the multiverse-crossover The Flash. And with his role in Batgirl,it seems he'll have a recurring role in the DCEU as a Batman Beyond style mentor figure for the next generation of heroes. This is a wise decision, as Keaton is still a fan-favorite Batman. Similar to Spider-Man: No Way Home,it'll be great to see an old favorite one more time, and seamlessly pass the torch to a brand-new hero.
Will everyone be satisfied by this decision? It's tough to say. Many are still upset Affleck leaving the franchise, and while that's understandable, perhaps we should let him pursue the new roles he wants.
