Michael J. Fox Says Back To The Future Doesn't Need Rebooting, But Would Be OK With It
Even though he doesn't «think it needs to be,» Michael J. Fox says he would be fine with Hollywood rebooting Back to the Future. The Marty McFly actor and star of the trilogy also opened up about whether he was approached for a fourth installment in the franchise.
Fox talked with Variety about his career and addressed the idea of a new Back to the Future. «I’m not fanatical,» Fox said. «Do what you want. It’s your movie. I got paid already.”
However, Fox doesn't buy the idea that someone can tell the story better in a new Back to the Future. He also thinks director Robert Zemeckis and co-writer Bob Gale aren't looking to see the series rebooted. „I think Bob and Bob have been really smart about that,“ said Fox. „I don’t think it needs rebooting because are you going to clarify something?“
As for whether a fourth Back to the Future was ever a serious consideration after Part III, Fox seems to imply it wasn't from his perspective. »… I was in the early stages of Parkinson's at that point, so I don’t know that I would have wanted to take that on," Fox said. «Right after Part III had done well, there might have been conversations about it, but I never got involved in them.»
If you didn't know, Fox was brought on to Back to the Future after Eric Stoltz had already spent weeks filming as McFly. Doc Brown actor Christopher Lloyd opened up a couple of years ago about how the recasting initially worried him.
