In its latest quarterly fiscal report, alongside providing updated sales figures for PS5, Sony has also done the same for its last major flagship first-party release, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. As of December 31, a little over two month’s on from its launch on October 20, the acclaimed open world superhero title has sold 10 million units worldwide.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold 2.5 million units on the day of its release, becoming the biggest PlayStation Studios launch of all time, and the end of October, its sales had climbed to 5 million units. Though that was the last sales update to be officially announced by Sony, leaked data emerging from Insomniac Games’ massive data breach in December revealed that the game, which had been developed and marketed on a massive budget of $315 million, had sold 6.1 million units as of November 12.
Insomniac is set to release a new free update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on March 7, adding new suits, New Game Plus, and more. Leaks from the aforementioned data breach have also suggested that the game will receive three free DLC drops over the course of the year.
In our review of the game, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is exactly the sort of sequel you’d want it to be, and though it stumbles here and there, ultimately, it improves on its predecessors in almost every way that matters most.” Read the full review through here.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is available exclusively on PlayStation 5.
