The crashes were somewhat ironically caused by a quality-of-life improvement update implemented earlier this month.
Marvel's Avengers recently saw a fix implemented to improve various aspects of the game. The V2.3 patch added a new mission chain led by Nick Fury, removed outdated quests, and reworked the War Table where players can access missions and events, making it more streamlined for players. A Quickmatch feature was also added to the War Table, allowing for a smoother matchmaking process. Ironically, this fix seemed to bring with it a new set of issues that made the game experience even worse for many, as it resulted in Marvel's Avengers crashing on PS5.

Responding to the PS5 crashes, Marvel's Avengers on Twitter has shared a temporary workaround — but it means players will lose their campaign progress. The developer noted that the team believes they have identified and are testing a fix, but suggested that PS5 players reset their story should they wish to avoid game crashes. It's worth noting the fix has been described as working for "some players," but not all. Understandably, this has not been well received by fans, with comments from players including MediumMongul deeming it "completely unacceptable." Others even stated that Crystal Dynamics should just «pull the plug» on the Marvel title following the controversy.
