Since RHONY season 13 wrapped, the show has been on hiatus due to poor ratings and reviews. The last season was filmed during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, which contributed to the tense and somber atmosphere of the show. Additionally, the show ignited backlash over how some of the cast members treated newcomer Eboni K. Williams, the first Black housewife on RHONY. Ramona Singer, in particular, displayed ignorance and insensitivity when it came to conversations around race and also mental health, which was brought up by fellow newcomer Leah McSweeney. RHONY has a reputation for being one of the funniest series in the Housewives franchise, and viewers were disappointed in how flat and serious the season was.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Luann reacted to the news of the show's reboot. «I found out literally almost at the same time as [fans] did,» she said, "[Andy and I] had a scheduled call, and then it broke right after."
