An officially endorsed attraction inspired by Naughty Dog’s iconic survival horror The Last of Us will open at Universal Studios in California and Florida later this year. The press release explains that you’ll be propelled “into a world of carnage and mayhem as [you] follow in the footsteps of the game's protagonists, Joel and Ellie, who endure a brutal journey in a world overtaken by a fungal virus that turns humans into various forms of a new threat known as the Infected”.
The attraction has been inspired directly by the game, and not necessarily the television show. Therefore, you’ll encounter all kinds of foes from the PlayStation exclusive, including Runners and Stalkers. You’ll also get to explore a couple of physical sets based directly on the game, including The Hotel Grand from the Pittsburgh area.
“We are excited to bring The Last of Us to life in a terrifying haunted house that is true to the spirit of this popular video game featuring our heroes, Joel and Ellie, Clickers, and more,” said Universal’s Lora Sauls. Halloween Horror Nights will run on select evenings from 1st September through 31st October at Universal Orlando and 7th September through 31st October at Universal Hollywood.
The amazing part about all this is that series creator Neil Druckmann had tweeted all the way back in 2021 that he’d love the game to get its own Halloween Horror Nights adaptation. “Who do I need to speak to?” he enthusiastically asked. Well, it looks like contacts were established, because two years later he’s got his wish.
