Lenovo's upcoming Legion Pro 5 laptop featuring the 14th Gen Intel Core i9-14900HX flagship CPU has been listed by a retailer for $1800 US.
Intel recently launched its Core Ultra "Meteor Lake" lineup which targets the mainstream laptop segment. Some designs are coming next year that will offer high-end discrete GPU options but for even better performance, users will have to stick with the Raptor Lake lineup such as the HX-series which offers more cores, threads, clocks, and higher power limits. These high-end laptop CPUs are getting refreshed under the 14th Gen family with higher clock speeds & a few new CPU variations.
In terms of specifications, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5 laptop features up to the Intel Core i9-14900HX CPU which is the flagship mobility chip with 24 cores (8 P-Cores + 16 E-Cores), 32 threads, up to 5.8 GHz clock speeds and a maximum turbo power design of 157W (55W PL1). Unlike the new Meteor Lake CPUs which come with an Arc iGPU, the 14th Gen HX series are equipped with the older Iris Xe chips with just 32 cores and are weak for gaming purposes. That's why, these laptops require a proper discrete graphics solution to meet the gaming requirements of high-end & enthusiast users.
This specific configuration comes with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 8 GB GPU but we can expect up to the RTX 4090 16 GB for these high-end laptops. The display is a 16" WQXGA (2560x1600) IPS design & you also get 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory plus 1 TB of storage. The laptop comes with an 80Wh battery capacity and weighs 2.55kg while measuring )363.4 x 260.35 x 26.75 mm. There's one extra Gen4 M.2 slot and the memory is also upgradable to 96 GB.
