LEGO Horizon Adventures, the blocky retelling of Horizon Zero Dawn, is launching on 14th November, Sony has announced. The quirky reimagining is coming to PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch… but obviously not Xbox.
Developed in partnership between Guerrilla and Studio Gobo, it’s one of the first times I can think of a big budget game being given the Lego treatment, similar to TT Games’ enduring film adaptations.
Naturally, this is a cute and quirky take on the thoroughly serious sci fi adventure that Aloy went on in 2017. An ancient evil is still seeking to destroy the world, and you’ll have to journey through the lush meadows, forests, and over the mountains of Earth to save it from a man named Helis and the evil that they follow.
Lego Horizon Adventures will be playable with both couch co-op and in online play.
The team has done a fantastic job of realising the whole world out of Lego-style bricks and pieces, when many games would have combined more traditional 3D game geometry with isolated block sections and structures.
There’s also plenty of space for some extra shenanigans, and the pre-order trailer showed how the game is being sprinkled with PlayStation easter eggs and in jokes. You’ll be able to customise your characters as well as your home, as well.
This will make the game and universe much more suitable for younger players, but just in case you’re feeling it’s a little bit immature, Lego Horizon Adventures is coming out just a couple weeks after Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered. This remaster looks to bring the original game up to the standards of Horizon Forbidden West, making use of the PS5 and PS5 Pro to push a bunch of new graphical effects. There’s also around 10 hours of freshly captured conversation mocap, to try and bring more life to the dialogue in the game – one of my biggest criticisms from its original launch.
