The showrunner of Legacies has revealed details about the planned storyline for the canceled season 5. Legacies was the third spinoff of The CW's The Vampire Diaries, their supernatural series based on the young adult novels by L.J. Smith, following the character of Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), who was introduced in the later seasons of the spinoff The Originals. The series followed her to the Salvatore School for the supernaturally gifted, run by former vampire Hunter Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis), to come of age among an ensemble cast that included Jenny Boyd, Kaylee Bryant, Quincy Fouse, Aria Shahghasemi, Chris Lee, Leo Howard, Ben Levin, and Peyton Alex Smith.

However, it was abruptly canceled in the middle of season 4 when The CW took the ax to a huge slate of series, including their long-running programs Riverdale, Dynasty, Charmed, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. This meant that the then-impending season 4 finale would now officially be the finale of the entire series. Luckily for fans, the creators had advance warning to create a finale with more firm closure so the episode could still be satisfying. This included a cameo by Joseph Morgan as Hope's father Klaus, returning in a spectral form.
