Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio are coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, a well-known Atlus insider has said. Their claim adds to the recent wave of Switch 2 leaks whose sheer volume suggests that Nintendo's next console is nearing its highly-anticipated launch.
In the meantime, Atlus's two biggest games of 2024 are both set to skip the Switch. Their official target platform lists came as a disappointment to some fans, who argued that the portable nature of Nintendo's hybrid console is a perfect match for the turn-based gameplay of Metaphor: ReFantazio and Persona 3 Reload.
But that's not to say that neither JRPG will ever reach the Nintendo ecosystem. On the contrary, established Atlus insider Midori believes both games will be released for the Switch 2, having said as much in a recent tweet. Their claim was offered in response to a recent interview that saw Atlus offer some coy remarks about why Persona 3 Reload won't be coming to the Switch. Specifically, the game's director, Takuya Yamaguchi, said that the studio decided to skip the Switch early on during the RPG's development, which sparked speculation that Persona 3 Reload could be waiting for the console's successor even before Midori said so outright.
The insider did not clarify whether the two upcoming JRPGs are meant to be launch titles for Nintendo's next console, though that seems like a plausible scenario. As a reminder, several recent reports suggested that the Switch 2 could be targeting a late winter or early spring reveal, with that announcement window suggesting the console is likely to hit the market in the second half of 2024.
Assuming that comes to pass, Metaphor: ReFantazio might even end up debuting on the Switch successor on day one, as the game itself is still without a firm release date and merely aiming for a fall 2024 launch.
