Konami confirms not one but two Suikoden remasters for 2023
There’s still no sign of Silent Hill but Suikoden fans will be happy to know that the first two games are getting the HD remaster treatment.
When Konami said it would be announcing a new entry in a beloved franchise during this year’s Tokyo Game Show, many assumed that it had to be talking about Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid.
Both franchises have long been rumoured to be seeing revivals at some point. However, as other rumours and a recent trademark hinted at, it turns out what Konami was referring to was its Suikoden role-playing game series.
What was announced isn’t a brand-new entry, but rather a pair of remasters of the first two Suikoden games, titled Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster Gate Rune And Dunan Unification Wars.
Both games released for the PlayStation 1 in the late 90s, but these remasters will launch across multiple platforms. Namely, the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
While they retain the same pixel sprite work for the characters, animations have been updated and the background illustrations upgraded to HD.
New environmental sound effects have also been added, and an auto save feature and an option to fast forward battles are included as well.
What makes these games unique is that you can potentially recruit over 100 different party members, although only a portion of them can take part in battles.
There hasn’t been a new Suikoden game since 2012 and that one never left Japan. The last Suikoden game to release in the West was 2009’s Suikoden Tierkreis for the Nintendo DS.
It’s too soon to tell if these remasters will result in a wholly new Suikoden game or further remasters/re-releases, but it is proof that Konami is interested in returning to making premium video games and not just
