After a decade without anything from the beloved series, Konami has announced a remaster of the first Suikoden games is releasing in 2023, called Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars.
When it comes to classic turn-based RPG series that haven't seen a new entry in a long time, there are almost too many to pick from. Wild Arms, Grandia, Skies of Arcadia - the list could go on. One of the most beloved series out there that fans have been wanting to see for a long time is Suikoden, which consists of two mainline titles and hasn't seen much mention from Konami since 2012.

Thankfully, that's about to change. Earlier today during a Tokyo Game Show presentation, Suikoden was confirmed to be making a comeback through a remastered collection containing the first two games, Suikoden and Suikoden 2. The collection is called Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars and is planned for a release in 2023 on Steam, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch.
Some of the key features included in the HD remaster have been listed on the game's official Steam page, which went live earlier today. As can be seen in the trailer, effects have been updated across the board, while new environmental sound effects have also been added and battle sound effects have been updated to play in HD. Character portriats have also been redrawn in HD by Junko Kawano, who originally designed them for the first game.
Aside from the graphical and audio upgrades, an auto-save function has been added to both games and, as has become standard for RPG remasters, the ability to fast-forward during battle has also been introduced. Finally, a conversation log will also be added to the collection, letting
