The main story for God Of War Ragnarök can apparently be beaten in around 20 hours – or double that if you do every side quest.
It’s less than 40 days now until the release of God Of War Ragnarök, Sony’s biggest, and only, first party release this Christmas. They’ve still released very little information about the game, and at this stage it’s unclear if they’re going to say any more, but according to one insider it will at least be a substantial experience.
According to sources the game is around 40 hours long, although you can beat the main game’s story in just 20 hours.
That’s very similar to the original 2018 game, which How Long To Beat puts at 20½ hours for the main story, 32½ for that and extras (i.e. how most people will play it) and 51 hours to 100% it.
What’s interesting about Ragnarök though, is the suggestion that in terms of the main story only 16½ hours are actual gameplay and the remaining 3½ are cut scenes (with an extra hour of cut scenes on top if you do the full 40 hours).
That’s surprising, as the original wasn’t particularly noted for its overlong cut scenes, although it was always very clever about blending them into gameplay, so they were probably longer than you thought.
The information comes from usually reliable leaker Tom Henderson, on Insider Gaming, but the suggestion of 40 hours was first made over two weeks ago, by the controversial David Jaffe – who worked on the original PlayStation 2 God Of War.
It’s no real indication of the length of the game, but it’s already been revealed that Ragnarök’s file size on the PlayStation 4 is twice that of the 2018 game, at 90.6GB.
God Of War Ragnarök will be released for PlayStation 4 and 5 on November 9.
