Last month's PC ports of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Marvel's Spider-Man 2 allowed the two former PS5 exclusives to chart once again in the USA, selling well enough to earn the third and sixth positions for January 2025 respectively. The best-selling game of the month was a carryover from December, with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 again situated highest.
For hardware, the PS5 was once again the best-performing box of January 2025 in terms of both units sold and dollars. However, compared to 2024, spending on PS5 hardware is down by 38 per cent. This is a downturn reflected across the entire industry, with Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch systems also selling less. Breaking down the spending stats, Mat Piscatella reports that purchases of the upgraded PS5 Pro have now fallen behind the pace of the PS4 Pro across the same time span.
What's important to note when comparing to last year's stats, however, is January 2024 covered a five-week span while last month there were only four weeks of consumer spending to track. As such, the timings don't quite line up accurately when the data is compared.
Returning to the top 20 best-selling games of January 2025, the only new release to chart was Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. For Sony, Astro Bot and Helldivers 2 kept their place in the top 20, and It Takes Two saw a huge surge in purchases off the back of Split Fiction's reveal and imminent release. It went from 82nd place to 20th in a month.

Matt Piscatella didn't mention the 4 weeks tracking compared to 5 from last year in his tweet, I wonder why.
It almost seems like he was trying to make those declines seem worse than they actually were also Indy not charting is
