James McCaffrey, the voice of Max Payne, Alex Casey in Alan Wake 2, and Zachariah Trench in Control, has sadly passed away at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer.
The sad news was first reported by TMZ, who received a statement from his representative that confirmed that the actor had been diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer. McCaffrey is said to have been surrounded by friends and family as he passed away on Sunday.
McCaffrey's representative said to TMZ, "One of Dick Wolf's proteges, McCaffrey went on to a successful 35 year career in television and film. Trained at the Actor's Studio, he never lost his love for creating characters; however, his good looks often pushed him toward leading man roles."
Although TMZ is the first to officially report McCaffrey's passing, the news was first shared by actor Kevin Dillon on Instagram, who uploaded a photo of himself and McCaffrey and said, "#rip James McCaffrey we were lucky to have known you. my best friend you will be missed". Dillon then confirmed in a comment that McCaffrey passed away after battling with cancer.
Although McCaffrey was best known for his titular role in Max Payne and his other characters within the Remedy Connected Universe, he was also beloved for his TV and movie appearances. Some of the other roles that McCaffrey was best known for include Rescue Me, where he played the role of Jimmy Keefe, Beautiful People where he was Julian Fiske, As The World Turns, Swift Justice, and many other shows and movies.
