James Gunn has shut down an ongoing, while also updating fans on the current status of the highly anticipated Peacemaker Season 2.
In a recent series of posts on Threads, Gunn responded to a fan, who pressed him on rumors that a Justice League: The New Frontier film is actually in development or not. While Gunn praised The New Frontier’s “magical alternate history,” he said no such project was actually coming.
“Nope sorry. No truth to this whatsoever,” said Gunn. “That said, I love New Frontier and its magical alternate history is a big influence on DC Studios.”
“The New Frontier” is the name of a six-issue comic series that was originally published by DC in 2004. The series is set in the 1950s, and tells the story of a variety of Golden Age superheroes, including Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and more, meeting Silver Age heroes like The Flash, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter.
In another update on Threads, Gunn also revealed that Peacemaker Season 2 is still shooting. Gunn shared the news with a joking GIF of a clip from Family Guy, while also revealing that Creature Commandos’ final episode has been finalized.
Peacemaker Season 2 will be part of Gunn and Peter Safran’s forthcoming DCU. It will see John Cena reprise his role as Christopher Smith alongside Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase/Vigilante, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee as John Economos.
Additionally, Frank Grillo will appear as Rick Flag Sr. in Peacemaker Season 2; although, he’ll first voice an animated version of the character in Creature Commandos, which premieres this coming December. It was also recently announced that Sol Rodríguez will play Sasha Bordeaux in the new Peacemaker season, while The Office’s David Denman has been cast in an undisclosed role.
