The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus might be the last non-Pro versions of Apple’s handset lineup to ship without high refresh rate displays, as a rumor claims that the company is bringing this technology to the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus next year. However, the term ProMotion was not mentioned in the rumor anywhere, suggesting that there may be differences separating the entire 2024 lineup once more.
The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus could offer smoother scrolling and fluid animations as Apple is rumored to switch to higher frequency displays, according to a rumor posted on X by Majin Bu. The tipster clarifies in a follow-up post that he has not stated that the new iPhones launching in 2024 will feature a 120Hz refresh rate, but it is possible that Apple uses a 90Hz panel while keeping the Pro versions exclusive to the 120Hz displays.
We have talked about the Apple Vision Pro’s refresh rate being limited to 96Hz, and that is only enabled when watching movies, so there is a possibility that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus only get a 90Hz upgrade.
