An early single-core and multi-core result of the A18 running in the iPhone 16 was rather disappointing, showing that the SoC was slightly slower than the A17 Pro featured in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Fortunately, the updated scores are here, with the multi-threaded scores displaying an almost 28 percent higher figure compared to the previous benchmarking run.
The new scores were shared by @negativeonehero, showing that the A18 obtained a single-core score and multi-core score of 3,409 and 8,492. Compared to the previous results, the single-core score has increased by 9.5 percent, while the multi-core category saw the biggest bump, performing nearly 28 percent higher. These are certainly impressive results, and it is safe to say that the A18 is faster than the A17 Pro, which was to be expected.
In the image below, we noticed that the CPU configuration and clock speeds of 4.04GHz are the same as from the previous Geekbench 6 listing, but with one tiny difference. The last time the A18 was tested, it was running on a device with the designation number iPhone17,3. On this occasion, the handset in question is the iPhone 17,2. Unfortunately, we cannot identify which model was tested, so our readers must wait for this update.
Given that the A18 is said to be mass produced on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, the chipset can probably maintain those high clock speeds for a longer period, leading to better sustained performance. Keep in mind that Geekbench 6 runs for a brief period on any device, so even the lack of a capable cooling solution would matter little in this test. Now, all that remains to be seen is how well the A18 Pro performs, especially since the latter has the same CPU cluster as the A18.
