You can now order a PC desktop case that arrives in packaging about the size of a pizza box.
The product comes from InWin, which created a new desktop chassis that’s easy to carry and ship. That’s because the product is made up of sheets of metal, which can be assembled together like origami to form a desktop case.
The “POC” mini-ITX tower PC chassis is now on sale(Opens in a new window) for $95.
PC cases usually arrive in big, heavy boxes. So the product from InWin could appeal to anyone looking for a case that's relatively lightweight, at 8.8 pounds, and easy to transport. “Delivered flat-packed, POC minimizes packaging materials and weight, reducing environmental impact,” the company said in its announcement(Opens in a new window).
We checked out the product at CES, and were surprised to find the case does come in a pizza-sized brown-cardboard delivery box. The individual 0.8mm-thick metal sheets can then be bent, folded, and screwed in, linking them together to create the structure. The company also created a downloadable app to guide customers on building the case, although the instructions are included on the box.
We’ll need to review the POC to understand how well it holds up and if it's easy or a nightmare to build. But InWin says the case is durable and roomy enough to house plenty of PC components. “POC can still support standard ATX power supplies (up to 160 mm long), and 3.5-slot graphics cards up to 346 mm long (82 mm wide),” the vendor added. At CES, InWin refrained from discussing the product’s price. But last week, the Taiwanese company revealed it will cost $95, putting it in a similar price range as other midrange mini-ITX
