If you’ve been waiting for The Sims 5, there’s something similar in the making that we’ll probably get to see soon. If you’re in Australia, then you can actually get your hands on it already. It’s not the final product though, it’s currently in its playtest phase. I’m talking about a new Sims game, titled The Sims Labs: Town Stories.
It’s the newest addition to the Sims franchise, but it’s not what you might be hoping for. An all-new mobile simulation game, it’s part of the broader Sims Labs project launched by EA last August. Designed as a ‘learning lab’ for testing new gameplay ideas and features for the franchise.
You can spot its listing on Google Play, though it isn’t available for download yet. And you’ll need to sign up for The Sims Labs through EA’s official website if you want in on the action. It’s exclusive to Australia, as I already mentioned.
As soon as gamers noticed the game, there were reactions all over. Well, mostly critical reactions. Some players on Reddit have expressed their utter disappointment over the current graphics and underwhelming visuals. They’ve suggested that EA may have created yet another mobile game filled with microtransactions.
The gameplay in Town Stories mixes classic Sims-style building with character-driven storytelling. You build your perfect neighbourhood, help the residents with their personal adventures, work on your Sims’ career goals and uncover all sorts of secrets that Plumbrook has to offer.
Based on the current footage and screenshots that some YouTubers have shared, the game doesn’t seem to diverge too much from those earlier titles. Given that it’s more of a testing playground for EA, they’re probably just experimenting with concepts that could evolve as development continues.
So, what do you think about this new game? Check it out on the Google Play Store, and even give it a try if you’re in Australia! And be sure to read our next news on Shop Titans’ Halloween Celebration With Lots Of Spooky Rewards.
