Actor Mads Mikkelsen says that Indiana Jones 5 will be a real old-school Indy film while speaking at Cannes 2022. Mikkelsen stars in the latest entry of the franchise, this time directed by James Mangold, with returning star Harrison Ford as the famed globe-trotting archeologist. Ford and Mikkelsen are joined by a cast that includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Toby Jones, and Antonio Banderas for the fifth adventure in the long-running franchise.
The Indiana Jones series kicked off in 1981 with Steven Spielberg's Raiders of the Lost Ark, which launched the character and the franchise into the cultural zeitgeist, spawning three more sequels and a TV series. 1984's Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom and 1989's Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade were both well-received, successful entries in the franchise, but 2008's Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was heavily criticized by audiences, who felt it lacked the same energy, style, and narrative quality that made the previous entries a success. It's frequently cited as the worst of the series.
