The newly remastered version of 2008's isn't the most difficult game for fans of the series to beat, but there is an unlockable Nightmare Mode that can satiate even the most hardcore of gamers. Resource management and increased aggression await those that attempt to push their in-game abilities to the limit.
Players can utilize a few new items while helping Ruka regain her memories throughout the near-perfect remake of . The biggest one being the brand-new Spirit Torch which allows players to inflict more damage to ghosts by storing and using Moonlight. This item is essential to getting through the game's Nightmare Mode.

Unlocking Nightmare Mode in is a fairly easy process but does require players to play through the game twice. Once the story in Normal Mode is completed, players will unlock Hard Mode which is required to unlock the hardest difficulty in the game.
Playing through all thirteen chapters in Hard Mode will unlock the Nightmare version of the game. Players will need to invest a lot of time to access this increased difficulty mode and getting through it is not for the faint of heart.
According to Samurai Gamers, the most noticeable difference in is the increasingly aggressive nature of ghost enemies. Their health pools will be larger and they will inflict much more damage than the Normal and Hard Modes. Players will need to be more aware of their situation throughout the game and act more defensively through this playthrough.
The other big difference is Medicine, Scared Water, and Film are no longer available to be purchased from shops. This puts a strain on resources and requires players to be more careful when spending items
