To evolve Psyduck into Golduck in Trainers must train the peculiar psychic duck Pokémon up to a certain level. Psyduck is a fairly common Pokémon in the Sinnoh region, and can be found on almost any body of water by using Surf. In specific areas, including Routes 208 and 210, Lakes Acuity and Valor, and the Great Marsh, Psyduck can also be caught in tall grass and has a high encounter rate (typically around 20%). Once caught, Psyduck can be trained and evolved into Golduck.

For Psyduck to evolve into Golduck in, it must reach Level 33. This is the only requirement Trainers need to meet to evolve Psyduck, making the process straightforward but also rather time-intensive.
Other Pokémon have additional requirements. For example, Trainers may need to build a high Friendship level through battles or visiting the Massage Girl for massages to evolve some Pokémon, while others only evolve when traded or exposed to evolutionary stones.
As mentioned above, Psyduck is commonly found across Sinnoh; Trainers don't need to rely on equipment such as the Super Rod, which they may need to catch bigger, rarer Pokémon. Psyduck also isn't region-exclusive, so Trainers also don't need to purchase both
When training Psyduck, Trainers also benefit from the EXP Share mechanic. This transfers a portion of XP earned in battle to all Pokémon in the party even if they didn't battle. Unlike previous generations, EXP Share is now on permanently and cannot be turned off.
