Time Princess is turning four.
To celebrate this milestone, developer IGG has decided to hold one of the game’s most impressive collaborations yet.
Time Princess x Mauritshuis takes the much-loved dressing-up game to the Hague, Netherlands, and through the doors of the world-renowned Mauritshuis Museum, home to many of the most famous paintings on earth.
Currently on display in the glorious 17th century former home of Johan Maurits, Prince of Nassau-Siegen you’ll find such iconic masterworks as Girl with the Pearl Earring, The Goldfinch, and The Anatomy Lesson of Dr Nicholaes Tulp.
And you don’t even need to travel anywhere to find them. Some of these paintings will be on display in the game, along with a ton of outfits and jewellery items inspired by them.
The developers at IGG claim to have poured their hearts into this collaboration, and they’ve certainly laid everything on the line in terms of creative ambition and risk-taking. It takes a bold person to step into the ring with an Old Master.
During the Time Princess x Mauritshuis collab event you’ll be able to see not just Girl with the Pearl Earring, but IGG’s own take on the celebrated portrait complete with tweaks and touches designed to capture the elegance and mystery of the eponymous sitter.
You’ll be able to dress up your own character in her iconic dress and headscarf, while learning all about the background of this painting and others.
Naturally, there’s also a new story chapter to enjoy. It’s called Her Invitation, and it sees you visiting the Mauritshuis Museum with erstwhile time-traveling companion Alain, trying on outfits and immersing yourself in the world of art.
We’ve always known that Time Princess is much more than a simple dress-up game, cunningly injecting a huge amount of historical and culturing teaching into its accessible gameplay. But this might be the franchise’s most ambitious move so far.
