WARNING: Spoilers for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness finally introduced the Illuminati into the MCU, but it's unclear how this collection of heroes stacks up against Marvel's most famous supergroup – the Avengers. Speculation about the role of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange 2 began to circulate after the trailer teased Patrick Stewart’s Professor X return, but until release, the other heroes making up the group remained unknown. When called before the Illuminati in Universe 838, Doctor Strange 2 revealed that the other members of this multiversal team-up consisted of Mr. Fantastic, Captain Marvel, Captain Carter, Mordo and Black Bolt.
It seems unlikely that Marvel Studios will ever entertain the idea of a conflict between the Illuminati and the original Avengers. Nonetheless, the prospect of which group is the most powerful remains interesting. Since the members of Phase 4’s Avengers are repeatedly being restructured, the original Avengers pose the most productive comparison to the Illuminati, placing Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye against Professor X’s multiverse-protecting heroes.

There is a multitude of caveats in the battle between the two supergroups, but in terms of one-on-one matchups, the Illuminati dominate the Avengers in most scenarios.
