Barry Plath from Welcome to Plathvillehas caught viewers' eyes thanks to his recent attitude change about raising his family. He sat on the sidelines for most of the series, as his wife Kim Plath took control of the parenting, which included strict household rules. Now, with a separation looming, Barry seems to be standing up for himself more than ever before.
During their college days at Florida State University, Kim and Barry partied, but they changed. They made the decision to settle down in a remote part of Georgia. The two adults met at church, and considered their meeting to be a sign from God. Both gave up their mainstream ways, which included listening to rap music, drinking alcohol, and living recklessly. Instead of introducing their children to the world around them, Kim and Barry made the decision to raise their children in a sheltered environment. Early on in the series, fans felt that Barry was controlling and a bit meek. As fans watch season 4, many can't help but notice that Barry seems different.

When viewers first met Barry in 2019, they learned that religion was at the forefront of his everyday life. As the patriarch, he often allowed his faith to guide him, especially when it came to decisions regarding his children and wife. Even though Barry worked outside of the home as a transportation planner, he still had a lot of control over what went on within his family unit on a day-to-day basis. During earlier seasons, Barry seemed to come off as condescending, which left viewers annoyed with the husband and father.
