After deciding to separate from Barry Plath, open a dance studio, and focus on herself, Kim has changed the dynamic of the series. It has affected how Kim's children act around her, the way Barry talks about her, and has shown a more vulnerable side to herself.
Kim and Barry seemed inseparable on Welcome to Plathville seasons 1 through 3, despite claims that Kim steamrolled Barry in a lot of situations. They agreed to raise all nine of their children in an unconventional way and stuck by each other during some of the hardest moments in their life. Whether they were disciplining Lydia Plath for texting a boy without their permission or showing support for Moriah Plath's blossoming music career, Kim and Barry were in it together. Kim shocked Welcome to Plathville fans on season 4 when she decided she was no longer in love with Barry.
