One of the major Welcome to Plathville season 4 plot points is Kim and Barry Plath's potential divorce, and the show has explored how they are protecting their kids during this difficult time. Kim has been living at rental properties while she and Barry are separated, but recently moved back into the home to ease the adjustment for their kids. Fans have gotten over their initial surprise over Kim leaving Barry, and want to see how they handle raising their children while separated, but living under one roof.
Kim and Barry always appeared to be on the same page on Welcome to Plathville, even with their extreme parenting rules. Although Kim seemed happy to stay at home and raise the nine Plath kids while Barry was working, she has changed her tune in season 4. What started out as opening a dance studio, and a possible mid-life crisis, has changed to a probable divorce for Kim and Barry, which affects the entire family.

Fans have accused Barry of treating Lydia as more of a friend than a daughter, by confiding in her too much and oversharing about his deteriorating marriage. The Plath parents have been open and honest with their kids though, especially the ones living at home, who are most affected by the separation. On the show, Barry showed emotion for the first time when he told Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia and Mercy Plath about the split.
While Welcome to Plathville fans called Kim out for being selfish for leaving Barry to raise the kids, while she enjoyed «me» time, she has made an effort by moving back into the home.
