Popular TLC show Welcome to Plathville is growing in popularity, and now is the time for the network to consider filming spin-offs featuring some of the more popular and entertaining Plath family members. When Welcome to Plathville first aired, it centered around Kim and Barry Plath raising their children in an ultra-conservative manner. They were proud to keep them away from the “junk of the world” and modern luxuries like television and video games. Kim and Barry knew their outlook on life was different, but they didn’t see it as a problem. Their parenting style put them in the spotlight, but their children grabbed the attention of viewers. The focus of Welcome to Plathville quickly shifted as fans became more interested in how the children were coping with living in such a strict and structured home.
Instead of preparing their kids for the real world, Kim and Barry held them back from it. The Plath kids didn’t have the opportunity to make friends or go on dates. They couldn’t even consume sugar or listen to the radio. Since they were homeschooled, they didn’t get to experience life outside of the family farm. Kim and Barry let their bizarre rules divide their once tight-knit family, and viewers were happy to see the eldest kids begin to break away.
