A Horizon Forbidden West player has discovered that Bristlebacks can be used to farm Metal Shards.
Forbidden West introduces a whole host of new machines into Aloy's world and a lot of them can be overridden to let Aloy take control of them, just as she did in the first game. Although the benefits of doing so are usually quite obvious, there are a few talents that might take a little digging to see.

One example of this comes from the Bristlebacks, the new warthog-esque machines that can be found fairly early on in the Forbidden West. Although most players will know that Aloy can take these over and ride them, one player has figured out that they can actually be used to farm Metal Shards, Horizon's main currency.
As reported by GamesRadar+, Redditor NotACyclopsHonest shared a trick that has Bristlebacks infinitely farming money for Aloy. They said, "Dismount the thing and it'll immediately start foraging for food, periodically pooping out containers full of shards which you can farm for as long as you like. Comes in handy when you're running low on currency."
All players have to do is override a Bristleback, ride it, and then dismount it to get it to start the digging animation that will bring up containers containing Metal Shards. Not only that, but some players underneath the Reddit post are claiming that the Bristleback will occasionally dig up ingots for the player to take, which are worth a lot of Shards.
Another player on the post claims that you can simply override more than one Bristleback at a time to essentially create a Shard farm, but this seems to have been proven wrong as Aloy can only have a certain amount of overridden
