Warner Bros. Discovery provided an updated sales milestone for Hogwarts Legacy as part of the group's Q1 2023 earnings report. The open world action RPG released by Avalanche Software in early February was possibly one of the brightest spots in Warner Bros. Discovery's financials, as it earned over $1 billion just in retail sales.
That's an enormous figure when you stop to consider that nearly half of all game sales are conducted digitally nowadays. Moreover, the data is limited to the year's first quarter, which ended on March 31st. It's been over a month now, and the game has just launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, potentially opening up to a massive user base. In two months and a half, Avalanche Software will release Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch, the biggest console platform available on the market.
Hogwarts Legacy has all the makings of a smash commercial hit, having sold over 15 million units globally. Earlier this week, NewZoo's Q1 2023 US & UK report saw the game topping nearly all charts except for consoles in the UK, where it placed second, only beaten to the top spot by FIFA 23. The game also topped the NPD charts in February, surpassing even Call of Duty.
