The upcoming Bond game from IO Interactive will have a style more in line with modern Bond movies, according to a new report.
The latest issue of Edge magazine (via GamesRadar) features an interview with IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abran, in which the topic of Project 007 is raised.
While the game is still some way off, and details therefore remain thin on the ground, Abran did at least give some information on the overall vibe and aim for the game.
Edge’s report reads: “The few other breadcrumbs we’re able to pick up in the office suggest a tone closer to Daniel Craig than Roger Moore, and perhaps a more scripted experience than Hitman’s freeform jaunts.”
It also quotes Abran as saying the game has been pitched as “the ultimate spycraft fantasy”, then suggests this may mean a focus on gadgets and maybe fewer murder-focused objectives than the Hitman games.
IO’s Project 007 was announced via a short CGI trailer in November 2020, which was quickly followed by a number of job listings on the studio’s website seeking “elite talent” to join the development team.
An IO financial report last year said the company expected a drop in revenue for the current and next financial years, suggesting Project 007 may not be released until after March 2025.
Two separate Bond games from other publishers have already been released this year. A re-release of the N64 classic GoldenEye 007 was released on Xbox and Switch in January, while Apple Arcade exclusive Cypher 007 arrived in September.
