While the world still awaits Android 14 to enter the stable channel finally, it seems that Google is already working on Android 15 and today, we have a name for Google's 15th major update. A little recap first, Google has a habit of naming Android versions based on desserts, and while the names used to be common knowledge, Google kind of stopped doing that after Android 8 or 9, but the dessert names were still widely used internally. We do know that Android 13 is Tiramisu and Android 14 is Upside Down Cake, now we have word on what the next version of Android will be called.
Mishaal Rahman revealed on Twitter that the currently unannounced Android 15 would be called Vanilla Ice Cream. Before you get your thinking caps on, Google names the desserts alphabetically, so it makes sense why Vanilla Ice Cream would be a perfect choice.

Again, even Rahman pointed out that it is currently too early because we are still waiting for Android 14 to hit the beta stage, but it is nice to see that Google is hard at work. Since it is too early to tell, it is also important to note that Google might scrap the idea altogether, but we will have to wait and see.
At this point, whatever name for Android 15 Google has thought of, one thing is clear the dessert names are no longer as popular as they used to be. I still remember explicitly calling Android 7.0 by its codename Nougat rather than using its actual name, even though I am running Android 13 on my phone; for the longest time, I had no idea what the dessert-based codename for this version
