Helldivers 2 is honoring fallen players during the battle for Malevelon Creek by issuing free capes to all players and marking April 3 as a special in-game holiday. After launching in February, Helldivers 2 has become a massive success for both Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios, knocking over many sales milestones and achieving player population numbers despite numerous issues through the first few weeks of the game's release. While the game offers plenty of emergent and dynamic moments through gameplay, part of the appeal is the constant flow of content and activities, which keeps the game feeling fresh.
In fact, Major Orders are issued numerous times per week, typically challenging the player base to defend or liberate certain planets of zones on the map from enemy forces. While the community typically bands together to try and earn rewards for completing the mission, these Major Orders create a dynamic push and pull within Helldivers 2's universe, constantly altering the map's layout and available planets. However, not all Major Orders have been a big success for players, with certain planets in Helldivers 2 becoming infamous within the community including Malevelon Creek, a location that most have called «Robot Vietnam» for its dense jungles and heavy firefights against the Automaton faction.
Considering the intense fighting that has taken place at Malevelon Creek since the launch of Helldivers 2 and the amount of players that have already fallen there, Arrowhead Game Studios, under the guise of the President of Super Earth, issued an announcement for all fans. Going forward, Helldivers 2 is recognizing April 3 as Malevelon Creek Memorial Day to commemorate all of the Helldivers that have perished on the planet.
